Dear Parents/Guardians, Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. Below is an outline of what your child will be learning throughout the month of September and October. It is important that you are aware of what your child learns in the classroom everyday. Please review your child’s homework assignments each night. Check assignments not only for completion, but also for understanding. You will be receiving a homework sheet every Monday indicating the homework assignments for the week. The homework given is a review of the lessons taught in school that day. Let’s work together to help your child reach these goals and succeed in school.
Phonics/Reading/Writing:
Letter/sound relationship
Listen and respond to a story
Retell the story
Recognize text structure/make predictions to help understand a story
Identify rhyme and repetition
Identify setting to help understand the story
Identify characters in a story
Compare and contrast the setting and characters in a story
Identify high frequency words such as “can “and “the”
Begin to develop fluency
Responds to literature by drawing a picture and attempting to write a sentence or two about the story
Math:
Chapter 1: Represent, count, and write numbers 0 to 5
Chapter 2: Compare numbers to 5
Chapter 3: Represent, count, and write numbers 6 to 9
Social Studies:
School and school community
Magnet Studies – New Zealand Science
Plants-students will be learning about the parts of plants, what plants need, how plants grow, look at leaves and flowers, and how we use plants
